about

RAS-P. Amsterdam, The Netherlands 18-07-1960 started his musical career in the late 70's after embracing RasTafari livity when the two sevens clashed.
Initially Ras-P played the riddim guitar but soon found that tinkling the ivories was his thing. Inspired by the likes of Winston Wright, Ansel Collins, Harold Butler, Pablov Black, Augustus Pablo & above all the Keyboard King, Jackie Mittoo.

His love for authentic, original old time ska, rocksteady & early reggae stems from such times, but in the 70's & 80's one didn't do such music. Roots, rasta, reggae was strictly the thing..... & nothing else. In those days Rasta Livity & roots reggae was booming & since there weren't that many keyboard players around, Ras-P found himself being a part of most of the reggae bands in & around Amsterdam - bubbling and riding the riddim like no other.
Bands like 'Inity', 'Rebel Soul', 'Black Messengers', 'Bozrah', 'Revelation Time', 'All-Starts Project DTS' (Down Town Sounds), 'Ibo & The Observers' & many more all appreciated Ras-P's sounds, as did many a solo artist that booked him on numerous studio sessions.

By the end of the 80's, the reggae scene and the music changed dramatically. It was the digital era; computerized riddims, samples put many musicians. Original skillful musicianship was becoming a thing of the past. Ras-P found this new development totally unsatisfactory & as a countereaction he formed an acoustic nyabinghi band, bringing the whole thing back to the roots. During the 90's, he kept low profile, doing an occassional studio session untill 1997, when an old time colleague invited him to assist in a one-time original ska project.
It was such a thrilling experience for the both of them that they decided to form a band doing strictly authentic ska, rocksteady & early reggae. This was to become the immensly popular band 'Rude Rich & The High Notes'.

Pure musical craftmaship made this band Europe's number 1 in its genre, on their own, as Rude Rich & The High Notes, as well as backing band for legendary foundation Jamaican artists including, Earnest Ranglin, Rico Rodriguez, Charles 'Organaire' Cameron, Derrick Morgan, Alton Ellis, Ken Boothe, The Heptones, Pat Kelly, Winston Francis, Dennis Alcapone, Winston Ready, U-Brown & Bitty McClean - they all appreciated the sound & feel of the band who have now played countless gigs internationally over 20 years between 1997 & 2017.

In 2003, Ras-P & Ritchie (High Notes drummer) set up a studio located in the heart of Amsterdam called The Gully Bank. The Studio, which existed between 2003 & 2013, recorded a lot of the above artists and built a large rhythm catalogue. Many of which have had releases on the 'Rude Rich Records' label.

So now, having moved operations to Earth Works Studio, Amsterdam, Ras-P presents a compilation of creative fullness. A tribute to the original sounds of Jamaica's players of instuments and, in particular, to the Keyboard King, arranger & supreme musical director, Jackie Mittoo.
Glory to Word, Glory to Sound, Glory to Power. Peace, Love & Harmony......EVERYTIME!
